Canadian Music Week Experiences

During Canadian Music Week - 2005 in Toronto, there was an indie conference where there were various breakout sessions. As performers in the Xtreme Band Slam, we were given passes to the Tune-up Sessions which included presentations by leaders in the music industry.

In one session that we attended, one of the panelists, Jay Frank, Head of Artist and Label Relations for Yahoo Music, came over to chat afterwards. We gave him our demo CD and talked a little about the band.

The next day, we bumped into Jay. He had listened to our CD and visited our web site. We talked and he gave our band manager his business card and email address.

Jay then showed up later to catch our performance at the Xtreme Band Slam. He talked to us afterwards and said that there were a couple of producers that he thought should hear us.

One person that he mentioned was the producer for Eisley (www.eisley.com). Interestingly, we had just revamped the look and feel of our web site about two weeks before based loosely on the Eisley web site (karma I guess). Eisley is a very melodic band with rich harmonies. We're not exactly in their league yet but musically we wouldn't be out of place.

We learned a lot at CMW, performed very well, had fun and maybe something will come from the connections we made.
